Minister Distributing Communion

Extraordinary Ministry

According to the norms of law Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are men and women who are authorized by the Archdiocese to give Holy Communion for a period of 3 years (renewable) when the number of faithful seeking Holy Communion is so great that the celebration of Mass will be excessively protracted. The ministers also serve only when sufficient Ordinary Ministers (priest and deacons) are not available. All ministers should be commissioned in front of the faithful.

The Extraordinary Ministers distribute the consecrated bread to fellow faithful at Mass. To be one of the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion is a way to express your deep love and reverence for the Eucharist. You should be a regular communicant at Our Lady of Peace, and free to receive the Eucharist yourself.

It is a wonderful privilege to serve your fellow parishioners in this way. You will find that it deepens your own personal devotion to the Eucharist. You will be able to take part in a training session to help you feel comfortable and confident to distribute the Eucharist. After that, you will be added to the rotation schedule. All ministers of Communion are required to serve at least once every 3 months at a Mass different from their regular Mass.

His fruit was sweet to my taste.” (Song of Songs 2.3)
