On May 7, His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo gathered with the Board of Directors and staff of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Toronto (CCAT) for its Annual Meeting, offering a moment to commemorate the past year’s work and to reflect together on their shared mission.

For more than a century, CCAT has supported the work of Catholic social service agencies across the Archdiocese, accompanying those on the margins with compassion and practical care rooted in the Gospel call to love one’s neighbour. As Chairman of CCAT, Cardinal Leo joined those present in giving thanks for this enduring ministry.

The Annual Meeting, held at the Catholic Pastoral Centre, flowed seamlessly into a celebration of Mass in the St. René Goupil Chapel. In his homily, His Eminence reflected on the Gospel reading from John (15:9–11), emphasizing the call to abide in Christ’s love. He drew the distinction between pleasure, happiness, and joy, emphasizing that authentic joy is sacred, found only by abiding in Christ’s love, and rooted in a life lived in communion with Him.

Heartened by his reflections, the evening concluded with a formal dinner, offered in gratitude for the service of CCAT’s volunteer Board of Directors and in recognition of members who completed their terms of office. The gathering affirmed CCAT’s commitment to promoting and advancing Catholic Social Teaching in practice and service, strengthening the resolve of those present to continue this work in faithful service to the Church and the wider community.
